I had a problem here when it came to putting up hay off of my clover field: mad hornets. My clover field has a woods on the south side of it. Along the edge, there were some weeds and brush some hornets started to build a hive in.

And they built it bigger and bigger. Any time I would go by there with a tractor to cut, rake, bale or chop hay, they would go into a mad frenzy. I would try to go by there fast, but it was a dangerous situation.

I could stay a ways away, but it was hard to know how far to stay away. When they heard a tractor engine and equipment close by, they wanted to go on the warpath. As the summer went on, the hive continued to grow, and the situation got more dangerous.

I wondered what to do about it. My concern wasn’t only about myself – what if somebody was walking along the edge of the field there and startled the big hive of hornets? I knew I had to do something about it, but what? I didn’t want to get attacked trying to get rid of them, and I knew I couldn’t get close to it either by now because it was so big.

So I gave it a lot of thought, and I prayed about it. Finally, I came up with an idea I thought was pretty good. I told it to my family, and they were a little hesitant, but I told them I thought it would work really well. They agreed we could try it.

So, on one of the following days, the kids and I headed out to the hayfield. They had to see how my idea was going to work out. I took my 12-gauge shotgun with three high-powered birdshot shells. Standing about 80 feet away from it, I quickly let it have all three shells.

When the smoke had cleared, there was nothing left of the hive. We never got stung by a single hornet that day and never had trouble making hay in that area ever again. It’s nice when a shotgun with three shells can totally take care of a bad problem.

But not all problems can be solved that easily; it would be nice if they could be. I’ve found out over the years, though, that my Lord who gave me wisdom in solving that problem is always on call whenever I need Him. And over and over again, He answers me. What a wonderful Lord I serve.

No matter what your needs or problems are, He is only a prayer away. Nothing is too big or too difficult for God; He loves you and is waiting to hear from you.
