What education are you bringing with you to this position?
During my career in academia I have been involved in several research projects aimed at improvement in postpartum diseases, reproduction and nutrition.
Being a DVM with residency in dairy production medicine enables me to better understand a cow’s physiology, therefore being able to help the producers on their management decisions.
Please describe your agricultural background.
I have worked in the dairy industry in the U.S. and Brazil for more than 10 years. After receiving my DVM I started working with dairy producers in Brazil, providing veterinarian work and nutrition consultation.
In the U.S., I have worked with dairies in Florida. I was a research assistant at the Laboratory of Nutrition at the University of California – Davis. I provided veterinarian work for dairies in Tulare, Kings and Kern counties while being a resident and clinician at UC – Davis. On my last appointment, I was with Texas A&M University as a dairy extension associate.
What territory will you cover?
I will be responsible for Central California, visiting producers in Tulare, Kings, Fresno, Madera and Merced counties.
What are your new responsibilities?
I am in charge of developing and implementing sound business plans and strategies with assigned customers and influences that will gain the support for the use of Pfizer Animal Health products and/or related services.
I'll deliver new knowledge to customers through client visits or conferences. I'll develop and apply problem solving in dealing with customers, fully utilizing my industry and product knowledge.
What excites you most about working in your new role?
The opportunity to work with progressive producers in California. During tough economic times like we have observed over the last few years, it is necessary for the producer to be even more efficient. This challenge motivates me to work with the producer and his team – veterinarian, nutritionist and consultants – to help them make the best decision for their business.
How will you be of most help to producers in your region or area of expertise?
My day-by-day duties include evaluating dairy management, performing record analysis, discussing new technologies and business and management strategies, and initiating continuous improvement.
