• The Accelerated Genetics communications team was recognized in the following categories during the annual Cooperative Communicators Association Institute in Nashville, Tennessee, this past year: Two first-place awards for scenic pictorial and cover of the year; three second-place awards for exhibits, print advertising and most improved publication; and Best of Show in photography for its 2013 Beef Sire Directory.
窶「 Holstein Association USA honored members at the 2013 National Holstein Convention in Indianapolis. Award recipients worked for the betterment of U.S. Registered Holsteins and are involved members of the organization.
Recipients of the Distinguished Young Holstein Breeders are Chad and Amy Ryan of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin. Elite Breeders Honoree went to Robert Miller of Orangeville, Illinois, while the Distinguished Leadership Award was given to Horace Backus of Mexico, New York.
窶「 Three Jersey youth are winners of the Reuben R. Cowles Youth Educational Award for 2013. Recipients of the $1,000 awards are Josh Hannah, Cleveland, Tennessee; Olivia Pearson, Lincolnton, North Carolina; and Caroline Warns, Keezletown, Virginia. Presentations were made Nov. 9 in Louisville, Kentucky.
窶「 The National Dairy Promotion and Research Board (NDB) honored Elwood Kirkpatrick and Billy Travis as the 2013 recipients of the Richard E. Lyng Award for their extensive contributions and service to dairy promotion.
Kirkpatrick, a producer from Kinde, Michigan, and Travis, a producer from Princeton, Kentucky, were recognized at the Joint NDB/National Milk Producers Federation/United Dairy Industry Association annual meeting in Phoenix.
The award is named for former USDA Secretary Richard E. Lyng, who played a key role in implementing policies that led to the establishment of the NDB 30 years ago. PD
