Gary Day Northwest Sales Manager Draper, Utah Hampel Animal Care

What education are you bringing with you to this position?

I obtained an animal science/pre-vet major and rangeland management minor from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo.

Please describe your agricultural background.
My agriculture background and involvement began at an early age through 4-H and FFA, including a state-winning livestock judging team. Upon graduating from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1994, I worked in many facets of the agricultural industry. My previous experience as a cattle producer, USDA meat inspector and livestock equipment sales representative has enabled me to establish strong industry connections throughout the Northwest.

What territory will you cover?
As the Northwest sales manager I will cover Oregon, Washington, Idaho and southwestern Canada.

What are your new responsibilities?
My main responsibilities will include meeting with dairy producers and calf raisers, product training and education, and establishing retail locations for Calf-Tel products.

What previous positions have you held?
I worked for Painted Hills Premium Beef Inc., a 650-head cattle ranch, which formed the groundwork for Painted Hills Natural Beef and was one of the first hormone-free operations in the West. Other previous positions include working for Koch Feedyards in Kansas, where we managed 70,000 cattle on feed and the Hawaiian Cattle Cooperative in Washington.

Additionally, I was a USDA meat inspector for more than six years in Utah and a livestock equipment territory sales representative for six years at HiQual Manufacturing, working with cattle and horse equipment, fencing and portable buildings.

What excites you most about working in your new role?
The fact that I’ll be working with great people, innovative products and solid values is very exciting. Working for Hampel Animal Care will allow me to feel right at home. I am committed to this progressive company and successful team.

How will your work in your new role benefit dairy producers?
This role will allow Calf-Tel to be more accessible to Northwest dairy farms and producers. Producers will be able to purchase Calf-Tel products locally and remain supported throughout the process. I will be able to build lasting relationships by providing crucial information on calf housing, management practices and animal care to dairy producers.

Why did you choose this company?
Hampel Animal Care’s integrity and dedication to the industry ultimately drove me to the company. Calf-Tel strives to be much more than a calf hutch. They are continuously meeting customer demands by staying committed to excellence and I want to be a part of that.

What goals would you like to accomplish while in this position?

As Calf-Tel remains the world’s leading provider of calf-housing solutions, I’d like to make that more prominent in the Northwest. I hope to positively impact calf housing and management strategies on dairies throughout Oregon, Washington, Idaho and southwestern Canada. PD
